Herbert Isamu Kumano, 79, of Hilo died March 3 at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Olaa, he was a member of the Puna Hongwanji Buddhist Temple and worked as a laboratory technician at the University of Southern California (U.S.C.). Private services held. No flowers. No koden. Survived by wife, Jane Kumano of Hilo; daughter, Annette (Richard Lance) Kong of Los Angeles, Calif.; son, Henry Kumano of Los Angeles, Calif.; brother, Thomas (Dorothy) Kumano of Keaau; sister, Sumie Sueishi of Honolulu; two grandchildren. Ernest “Ernie” Minoru Shimizu, 68, of Hilo died March 3 at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Hilo, he was an insurance salesman for William F. Jones Insurance Agency and the former Crown Life Insurance Company; He was also a motorcycle safety instructor and U.S. Army Vietnam veteran. Friends may call from 4-5 p.m. Friday at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo; Memorial service at 5 p.m. Urn committal service at 9 a.m. Monday, March 23, at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No.2. Casual attire. Survived by daughter, Jennifer (Pai’ea Busby) Shimizu of Hilo; sisters, Sharon (Earl) Nomura of Kurtistown, Susan (Cooper) Nakayama of Hilo; brother, Stanley Shimizu of Pennsylvania; and nieces, a nephew and two step grandchildren. James Riley Walsh, 67, of Pahoa died Friday, March 6, at Hilo Medical Center. Born and raised on Oahu, he was a member of the Army National Guard in Waimanalo for six years, worked in management for several Waikiki Hotels, and managed retail music stores on Oahu and Maui. Private services. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Survived by sister, Karen (Herbert) Thompson; nephews, Scott and Kevin; niece, Pam; six grandnieces and grandnephews.
